ANA Flight from Tokyo Diverted After Passenger Attempts to Open Exit Door

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A passenger on All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight NH114, en route from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, allegedly attempted to open an emergency exit door mid-flight, prompting the plane to divert to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The flight, originally scheduled to land in Houston at 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, was redirected approximately four hours before its arrival due to the disruptive incident, according to Fox26Houston.

The male passenger involved was restrained by crew members and two military veterans on board. Upon landing in Seattle at around 4:19 a.m. local time, he was evaluated by emergency medical services and taken to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed he was experiencing a medical crisis. No further details about his condition have been disclosed.

Passenger Accounts

Ashley, a passenger seated in front of the individual, initially noticed nothing unusual. She recounted that the man abruptly stood up and climbed over those seated next to him.

"He got up in a rush, and I assumed he was feeling sick," she said. After his attempt to access the emergency exit, passengers in military uniforms intervened, restraining him in his seat for over an hour until the plane landed safely. Authorities then escorted him off the aircraft.

The flight resumed its journey to Houston, arriving around noon.

Second Incident in Seattle

While on the tarmac in Seattle, a second passenger also became disruptive, according to ANA's statement. Both individuals were removed from the aircraft by Seattle Port Police, allowing the flight to continue to Houston without further issues.

ANA's Statement

On the same day, ANA issued a statement: "Flight NH114 from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Houston was diverted to Seattle due to an unruly passenger. While on the tarmac, a second passenger became disruptive. Both were removed by Seattle Port Police, and the flight proceeded to Houston without incident."

ANA emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains their top priority. The Japanese airline also expressed gratitude appreciation for the support of local law enforcement.
