TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemendiktisaintek) reinforced research and innovation cooperation with Australia through a scientific forum held at the Graha Kemendiktisaintek, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Present at the event titled "Scientific Forum: Strengthening Global Collaboration Through Science and Technology Diplomacy" were the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Brian Yuliarto, and the President of the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), Chennupati Jagadish.
The forum is part of the series leading up to the 2025 Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI). During the meeting, the two countries agreed to expand research collaboration across various fields, ranging from agriculture, health, energy, to digitalization. "The main target is to share research experiences and build collaborations between Indonesian and Australian scientists," said Brian. He referred to Australia as a strategic partner due to its established research ecosystem, while Indonesia offers uniqueness as a tropical country.
According to Brian, this cooperation is expected to drive the commercialization of research into priority sectors, such as food, livestock, electronics, and minerals. "We hope to make a discovery or contribute to the development of technology, and some research will be directed towards commercialization in the industry," said Brian.
At the same time, Chennupati Jagadish stated that science and technology are essential for addressing global challenges, including those related to food security, energy, and digital transformation. "We are pleased because President Prabowo Subianto truly believes that science and technology will improve the quality of life for the Indonesian people," said Jagadish.
Jagadish also revealed plans for joint program development between students and researchers from both countries, including collaboration in doctoral and undergraduate programs. "No country can solve global problems alone. We can only solve them by working together," he said.
