Indonesia Prepares 6,859 Mosques as Rest Stops for Eid Homecoming Travelers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafii stated that a total of 6,859 mosques are prepared to provide services for travelers during Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, better known as the period of Eid Homecoming. These mosques can serve as resting points for travelers in need of a place to take a break during their journey.

"Certainly, mosques are places of service," said Romo Muhammad Syafii in an official statement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The mosque service is part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs' program called the Indonesian Mosque Expedition. These thousands of mosques will serve as rest stops, providing various facilities for people traveling.

The services offered include keeping the mosque and prayer rooms open 24 hours a day, ensuring the security of the mosque and prayer rooms, parking areas, healthcare services, maintaining cleanliness especially in the toilet facilities, and providing clean water.

In addition, the mosques provide phone charging facilities, resting areas, information centers, and food.

In the implementation, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is collaborating with Radio Elshinta to provide information about the locations of the service mosques and travel conditions to the travelers.

The Indonesian Mosque Expedition program through Radio Elshinta will be broadcasted from 8 days before Eid to 8 days after Eid. Meanwhile, the mosque services for travelers will be available starting 7 days before Eid until 7 days after Eid.

"Elshinta will be on air from minus 8 days to plus 8 days, while the mosque services will start from minus 7 days before Eid until plus 7 days after Eid," he said.
