Indonesian Police Bust 7 Online Gambling Sites, Freeze Rp14 Billion in Assets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has uncovered the masterminds behind seven online gambling websites operating in Indonesia, seizing evidence totaling Rp14 billion.

Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, Chief of Bareskrim, announced that seven individuals have been named suspects in the case. They are identified as operators of the gambling site h55.hiwin.care.

"The evidence confiscated from the suspects includes money amounting to Rp14,675,739,801, which we have frozen in their accounts," Wahyu stated at a press conference on Friday, May 2, 2025.

In addition to h55.hiwin.care, the suspects also ran six other gambling websites that shared the same IP address: bahagia789.com, luckybali.com, 7276.com, suka789.com, jiliapp.com, and lucksvip.net.

Wahyu explained that the suspects used a company acting as an aggregator to process deposits and withdrawals. Four suspects have been arrested, while three remain fugitives.

The suspects reportedly used eight different payment service providers, which were integrated with the gambling platforms through merchant aggregators.

One of the suspects, identified by the initials QR, a Chinese national, allegedly conducted transactions and converted funds from rupiah to USDT cryptocurrency via the account of PT Cahaya Lentera Harmoni. He also linked the company with various local payment service providers.

According to Wahyu, these actions were intended to obscure the flow of illegal funds from law enforcement.
"This shows that the modus operandi in these transactions has also evolved, not only using banking transactions, but also using payment services," he said.

Previously, Bareskrim's Cyber Crime Directorate (Dittipidsiber) seized Rp 61 billion from 164 accounts tied to online gambling.

"So far, the total number of accounts that have been followed up by Bareskrim Polri is 865 accounts with a value of around Rp194.7 billion," Wahyu added.

This investigation follows a report from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). According to PPATK head Ivan Yustiavandana, more than 5,000 online gambling-linked accounts have been frozen, involving transactions worth Rp600 billion.
