Jakarta Open to Newcomers Post-Eid as Pramono Anung Won't Launch Yustisi Operation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has outlined the city's strategy for managing the expected influx of new residents following the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday. He emphasized that the government will not conduct the annual raid against new arrivals, dubbed the Yustisi operation. Instead, the Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil) will focus on verifying the newcomers' population data.

"The Jakarta government will not carry out population operations, but we will conduct population checks,” Pramono said at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 27, 2025

He acknowledged that Jakarta continues to be a major draw for individuals seeking better economic opportunities after the Eid celebrations. To effectively manage this potential influx, he explained that population data checks are a necessary administrative measure to maintain security and order within the city.

In previous years, the Jakarta Provincial Government often discouraged residents who were traveling to their hometowns for Eid from bringing back relatives or other family members. However, this year, Pramono has adopted a more welcoming approach, extending an open invitation to those seeking to improve their prospects in Jakarta.

“Because we, too, have surely dreamed of improving our prospects in Jakarta. So, we are providing opportunities for those who want to do the same,” Pramono added.

Previously, the Governor detailed that a humane approach will be implemented for new arrivals. The Jakarta Provincial Government will activate vocational training centers and community centers to provide skill-building opportunities before they enter the workforce.

“In Jakarta, there will also be vocational training centers, places to conduct training,” Pramono explained at the Great Mosque of KH Hasyim Asy'ari in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Saturday night, March 22, 2025."

Moreover, the vocational training centers will focus on enhancing work quality and providing language training. “Because one of the primary issues faced by Jakarta is related to language,” he stated, as reported by Antara.
