TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, stated that the Indonesian government is prioritizing saving lives in handling the landslide disaster that struck Pasirkuning and Pasirkuda Hamlets in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency.
He stated that the search and rescue operations are continuing non-stop, 24 hours a day. This is because approximately 80 residents are still being searched for.
"Search and rescue (SAR) operations are being conducted 24 hours a day because approximately 80 residents are still being searched for," Pratikno said after accompanying Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to inspect the disaster site and speak with evacuees on Sunday, January 25, 2026, as quoted in an official statement from the Coordinating Ministry for PMK.
The landslide occurred after heavy rains inundated the West Bandung area since Friday, January 23, 2026. This triggered a major landslide in the early hours of the morning around 3:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, accompanied by flash floods from the hilly area. Landslides and mud have inundated residential areas, burying houses, damaging infrastructure, and cutting off road access.
The West Java regional government has declared a 14-day Emergency Response Status since January 23, 2026. The goal is to ensure swift, integrated, and coordinated response.
In addition to focusing on the search for victims, Pratikno stated that the handling of the deceased is being carried out optimally. The identification process, including the handover of bodies to families, continues to be carried out in accordance with established procedures.
"We are handling these victims as optimally as possible, from the identification process to the dignified handover of bodies to families," Pratikno said.
He added that the protection and services for evacuees are also a primary concern for the government. In handling this disaster, the government has deployed five main clusters in the field: SAR, health, logistics, protection and evacuation, and recovery.
The SAR cluster, led by Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), along with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), has deployed more than 250 personnel and heavy equipment to expedite the search process. Evacuated victims were referred to the nearest hospitals, such as Cililin Regional Hospital and Soreang Regional Hospital.
The Health Cluster provides a field health post with 24-hour service, an ambulance on standby, a referral mechanism for critically ill victims, and mental health and trauma healing services for survivors.
Meanwhile, the Logistics Cluster ensures the availability of basic food aid, three ready-to-eat meals a day, blankets, and emergency tents for evacuees.
The Evacuation and Protection Cluster, involving the Ministry of Social Affairs, provincial governments, and district governments, provides assistance to the families of affected victims. The Recovery Cluster is on standby to support the fulfillment of basic needs and prevent further disasters.
He emphasized the importance of preventing further disasters. The central government continues to coordinate intensively with local governments to prepare follow-up measures, including relocation plans for affected residents.
