1. National Library of Indonesia

Established in 1980, Perpusnas has deep historical roots dating back to 1778 with its connection to the Bataviaasch Genootschap. In early 2025, Perpusnas received the MURI award as the world’s tallest library at 27 stories. The library offers a range of services, including multimedia, audiovisual collections, and reading rooms, with over 7 million items cataloged as of 2022.

2. ISDS Questions Basis for TNI Assignment at AGO without Actual Military Threat

Indonesia Strategic and Defence Studies (ISDS) is questioning the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) assignment policy in securing the Attorney General's Office. The policy is considered to potentially create overlapping of authorities between the military and civilian law enforcement.

"Civil-military cooperation is a good thing to do in any country. However, such cooperation, especially in modern countries, requires a clear division of tasks," said ISDS Co-Founder Dwi Sasongko in a written statement on Monday, May 12, 2025.

3. U.S.-China Agree to Slash Tariffs in Bid to End Trade War

 The United States and China on Monday, May 12, 2025, agreed to temporarily cut mutual tariffs, marking a key step toward easing a long-running trade war. According to Channel NewsAsia, the move comes as the world’s two largest economies work to resolve tensions that have rattled global markets and dampened economic outlooks.

Following talks with Chinese officials in Geneva, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said both sides had agreed to a 90-day suspension of further tariff actions. As part of the deal, tariffs will be slashed by over 100 percentage points, bringing them down to 10 percent.
