1. Indonesian Judge Sentences Student to 2.5 Years in Prison for Promoting Online Gambling

A district court in Medan, North Sumatra, on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old university student to two and a half years in prison for promoting an online gambling site through her Instagram account. Indah Siska Sari, a student from Tanjung Pura in Langkat Regency, was found guilty of violating Article 45(3) of the 2024 Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.

"The court hereby sentences the defendant, Indah Siska Sari, to two years and six months of imprisonment," aid presiding judge Vera Yetti Magdalena on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

2. Bank Indonesia Responds to US Concerns over QRIS

Bank Indonesia (BI) has responded to the United States' complaints regarding the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system, which is considered a barrier to trade between the U.S. and Indonesia.

According to Destry Damayanti, Deputy Governor Senior of BI, Indonesia's collaboration with other countries on QRIS or other fast payment methods depends on the country's willingness, including the U.S.

"So we do not discriminate. If the U.S. is ready, we are ready, why not?" Destry said to reporters during a Financial Education event for Indonesian Migrant Workers at the Dhanapala Building, Jakarta, on Monday, 21 April 2025.

3. IKN Authority to Establish Special Administrative Region

Head of the Indonesian Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, said that the second phase of IKN development involves not only completing physical construction projects but also preparing for the establishment of the IKN Special Regional Government (Pemdasus).

"So, to be ready for 2028, if declared, it will become a Special Regional Government, as outlined in the IKN Law," Basuki said during a virtual press conference on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The IKN Authority's preparations include regional delineation and the development of regional coding. Basuki mentioned that the Deputy for IKN Development Control is collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs on this task.
