Zacky Dhia Ulhaq Wins JAPFA FIDE Rated 2025 Chess Tournament

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FM (FIDE Master) Zacky Dhia Ulhaq clinched the champion title in the open category of the chess tournament JAPFA FIDE Rated 2025 held at the Gelora Bung Karno Multipurpose Hall, Senayan, Jakarta, this week.

Zacky sealed the title after consistently performing throughout the nine rounds and accumulating a total of 7.5 VP.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), I am grateful to have won and secured the JAPFA Fide Rated 2025 championship, despite being under pressure in the opening, I managed to secure the victory after finding my form in the middle of the ninth round," said Zacky in a written statement from PB Percasi on Thursday.

In the decisive round, the ninth round, the chess player from Situbondo secured crucial points after defeating IM (International Master) Arif Abdul Hafiz in the 30th move, following the Semi Slav opening.

In the second position is FM Satria Duta Cahaya with 7 VP after defeating opponent CM Fabian Glen Mariiano, who descended to fourth place with a score of 6.5 VP.

Meanwhile, the third place was taken by IM Mohammad Ervan with 6.5 VP, ahead on solkoff score against Fabian. Solkoff score is used to determine the ranking when players have the same score, by calculating the total points obtained by the opponents they have defeated.

In the challenger category, talented female chess player Shafira Devi Herfesa, who won the Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship in Mongolia last week, occupied the eighth position after accumulating 7 VP.

Ray Mclung Gunawan, who performed consistently from round 1, emerged as the champion after accumulating a total of 8 VP. Meanwhile, the second position was held by Aris TLS who also collected 8 VP but with a lower solkoff score than Ray.

The third place was taken by Agus Sugianto, who had a higher solkoff score than Jalaludin and Brian Surjaya, despite both having a score of 7.5 VP.

The tournament, which was attended by 376 chess players from 28 provinces and nine countries, is still ongoing with the final matches in the blitz chess category scheduled for Thursday.
