Arsenal Beat West Ham 1-0 After VAR Drama in Injury Time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arsenal secured a dramatic 1-0 victory against West Ham United in the 36th week of the English Premier League at London Stadium on Sunday night, May 10, 2026. West Ham's equalizing goal in injury time was disallowed after referee Chris Kavanagh reviewed the goal through VAR.

Arsenal appeared dominant throughout the game with 64 percent ball possession and 15 shots. The team led by Mikel Arteta immediately threatened early on through Leandro Trossard.

In the ninth minute, Trossard nearly put Arsenal ahead with a header from a corner kick. However, West Ham's goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, made the save. A minute later, the Belgian player had another golden opportunity, but his header hit the goalpost.

Arsenal had to substitute Ben White in the 28th minute due to injury. Coach Mikel Arteta replaced him with Martin Zubimendi.

Despite continuous pressure, Arsenal failed to break the deadlock throughout the first half. West Ham predominantly defended while relying on quick counter-attacks through Taty Castellanos and Crysencio Summerville.

In the 79th minute, David Raya made an important save to thwart Mateus Fernandes' chance. The West Ham midfielder had a shooting opportunity after receiving a breakthrough pass inside the penalty box. However, Raya managed to block it.

Arsenal's long-awaited goal finally came in the 83rd minute. Trossard received a pass from substitute Martin Odegaard inside the penalty area before taking a shot at Hermansen's goal. The goal turned out to be the only one in the match.

West Ham briefly celebrated an equalizing goal in the 95th minute through Callum Wilson, who capitalized on a loose ball in front of Arsenal's goal. However, referee Chris Kavanagh then stopped the game to review VAR due to suspected foul play in the goal process.

The match was also marked by several yellow cards. Arsenal received cards for William Saliba, Cristhian Mosquera, Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard. Meanwhile, West Ham received yellow cards for Taty Castellanos, Crysencio Summerville, and Jean-Clair Todibo.

This victory ensures Arsenal takes home three points and maintains a firm position at the top of the Premier League standings. The Gunners maintain a five-point lead over their closest competitor, Manchester City.
