Axiom 4 Space Mission Launches with 60 Scientific Studies from 31 Countries

1 day ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four astronauts participating in the Axiom 4 mission are set to take off at 08:22 am EDT on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. They will use the Dragon capsule with the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center, owned by NASA in Florida, United States.

"The Ax-4 astronauts will ride inside Dragon for an autonomous docking to the station’s space-facing port," as stated in the Axiom 4 plan, cited from the NASA website on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The mission was initially scheduled for June 8 but was postponed due to weather forecasts and preparation needs. Initiated by Axiom Space, a space infrastructure developer partnering with NASA and SpaceX, Axiom 4 marks the fourth private astronaut flight to the International Space Station. The space research will be conducted for two weeks.

Veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson will lead the Ax-4 mission. Followed by Indian pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, mission specialist Sawosz Uzanaski-Winiewski from Poland, and Tibor Kapu from Hungary, who will be stationed at the orbital forefront.

The four astronauts will conduct approximately 60 scientific studies and activities representing 31 countries, including the United States, India, Poland, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, as well as countries across Europe. NASA stated that Peggy Whitson will serve as the commander alongside three individuals flying to space for the first time.

Citing the official Axiom Space website, this mission emphasizes the scientific portfolio led by the United States, India, and Poland in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Hungary. The goal is to enhance the participation of countries in space research, showcase the value of microgravity research, and encourage international collaboration.

"The studies will enhance global knowledge in human research, Earth observation, and life, biological, and material sciences," according to Axiom Space's official statement. Established in 2016, the company states that Axiom 4 will demonstrate the space research capabilities of the crew's home countries.
