TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that decisions regarding a cabinet reshuffle fall entirely under the authority of President Prabowo Subianto.
He urged the public not to speculate about the possibility of any changes.
"Let's not act beyond our authority. The authority all lies in the president's prerogative," said the Golkar Party Chairman at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday, May 22, 2025. His remarks came in response to speculation that he might be reshuffled.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto offered a brief comment when asked about the same issue. "Not yet," he said at the palace complex on the same day, adding that he had no knowledge of any planned reshuffle.
An article titled Jokowi's Ministers Maneuver to Avoid Cabinet Reshuffle, published by Tempo Magazine on May 11, 2025, reported that President Prabowo Subianto continues to closely monitor the performance of his ministers.
The article highlighted Bahlil, noting his controversial move to ban the sale of 3-kilogram LPG cylinders at the retail level in early February 2025.
Within Golkar Party circles, there has been speculation that Bahlil could be moved to another position, with some suggesting he may become the coordinating minister for the economy.
Airlangga is also rumored to be among the ministers potentially facing replacement. Initially said to be on the removal list, his involvement in leading Indonesia’s delegation during trade negotiations with the United States appears to have strengthened his standing.
Tempo has reached out to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi for comment, but he has not responded. Previously, on April 17, 2025, Prasetyo denied any plans for a cabinet reshuffle.
"There isn't. The reshuffle refers to Bahlil's reshuffle in the Golkar Party's leadership. There is absolutely none," he told reporters in Jakarta.
