TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Defense stated that the plan to send 8,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers to the Gaza Strip is still under discussion. This includes the attributes to be worn by the Indonesian peacekeeping forces in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) formed by the Board of Peace.
Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, stated that there is no certainty regarding the use of blue helmets by the peacekeeping forces. The blue helmets are the attributes worn by the United Nations peacekeeping forces.
"It's still too early to determine the technical details," he said in his statement on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Nevertheless, Rico stated that the attributes worn by the thousands of TNI soldiers in Gaza will be based on the mission's mandate. "(Including) the design of the mission and the official arrangements to be determined later," said the one-star general.
Rico expressed Indonesia's involvement in the International Stabilization Force, formed by the Board of Peace, as a means of achieving international peace. One of the references, he said, was the UN Security Council Resolution Number 2803.
The Ministry of Defense, he said, is currently awaiting further instructions from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the plan to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza. "We cannot provide a specific time for this at the moment," he said.
The attributes that will be worn by the Indonesian peacekeeping forces in Gaza have also been questioned by the former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Dino Patti Djalal. Through a post on social media X, Dino asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the public about the colored helmets that soldiers will wear.
According to him, the public has not yet received an explanation about this. "Will the Indonesian peacekeeping forces in Gaza use blue helmets as Indonesian peacekeepers usually do. Please confirm and explain. It's a significant difference," said the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on his personal X account @dinopattidjalal, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Two spokespersons from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang and Vahd Nabyl, have not responded to Tempo's inquiries. Messages sent to their WhatsApp numbers remained unanswered at the time of writing this news.
