TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s flagship airline Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines launched their joint business commercial collaboration on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. This collaboration marks the expansion of both airlines’ flight networks with the inaugural routes of Jakarta-Haneda (GA-874 and GA-875) and Denpasar-Narita (GA-880 and GA-881).
Garuda Indonesia's Commercial Director, Ade R. Susardi, said the partnership is expected to bolster Garuda's market share in the Asia-Pacific region and boost the number of Japanese tourists to various destinations in Indonesia.
"We want to ensure a more seamless flight experience for passengers, from more competitive ticket prices to easier pre-flight and post-flight processes. Tourists from Japan now have more options to explore cities such as Medan, Makassar, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta," said Ade in a written statement on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
This agreement is a follow-up to the collaboration explored since October 2024. Through this program, both airlines offer more integrated and flexible flight schedules, connecting major routes in Indonesia and Japan.
The collaboration also expands advanced flight networks to various cities in Japan, with Garuda Indonesia passengers easily exploring Okinawa, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Osaka, and Hiroshima with more attractive prices.
Japan Airlines' Managing Executive Officer, Ross Leggett, welcomed this collaboration. Leggett hopes for the partnership to drive business growth and economic relations between Japan and Indonesia.
As part of the service integration, this collaboration also offers various additional benefits for passengers, including access to both airlines' domestic flight networks at special prices, direct check-in facilities to the final destination, and flight transfer convenience. In addition, passengers can also collect miles from flights on both airlines, as well as receive one-stop call center service to enhance travel convenience.
With the implementation of this "Joint Business" program, Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines are considered to further strengthen their position in the Asia-Pacific aviation industry, while also promoting economic and tourism cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.
