TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck southeast of Enggano, Bengkulu, on Sunday at 22:15 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
The epicenter was located at sea, 84 km southeast of Enggano, at coordinates 5.92 degrees South Latitude and 102.77 degrees East Longitude, with a depth of 40 km.
The BMKG stated that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat.
As of now, there have been no reports of damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
The BMKG noted that this data prioritizes speed, meaning the processed results are subject to change as more data becomes available.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes due to its location at the junction of several major tectonic plates, including the Indo-Australian, Eurasian, and Pacific plates.
