Indonesia Updates Rules of Work Trial Visa for Prospective Foreign Workers

7 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration has renewed the regulation for issuing the C18 visa, or the work trial visa for foreign workers. These provisions are laid out under the Circular Letter of the Director General of Immigration Number IMI-453.GR.01.01 dated May 27, 2025, and enforced on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

"Through this regulation, we hope to prevent foreign workforce misuse by companies," said the Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman in his official statement on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

According to Yuldi, there are two key points under the new rules: the residency permit under the C18 visa will be valid for a maximum of 90 days and is non-extendable. Additionally, foreign nationals are prohibited from using a C18 visa with the same company guarantor more than once.

Yuldi added that applications for the C18 index visitor visa submitted before midnight of June 14, 2025, will still follow the previous regulations. These visas, he said, will remain valid for 60 days with options to extend.

Under the new rule, the sponsors of the prospective foreign workers must have an official account on the evisa.imigrasi.go.id portal to apply for the C18 visa.

The required documents include a passport with a minimum validity period of six months, proof of financial capability in the form of the latest three-month bank statement in the name of the foreigner or their sponsor, the latest color photograph, and an invitation to conduct work trials from a government agency or private institution.

"The Directorate General of Immigration is making an effort to facilitate prospective foreign workers while adjusting their room for movement to suppress potential violations," said Yuldi.
