Indonesian Police Detain Woman Over Viral Meme of Prabowo and Jokowi Kissing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Indonesian National Police has detained a woman identified by the initials SSS for allegedly posting a meme showing Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and former president Joko Widodo kissing.

"It is true that a woman with the initials SSS has been arrested and processed," said Commissioner General Erdi A. Chaniago, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, when confirmed on Friday, May 9, 2025.

SSS has been charged under Article 45 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (1), and Article 51 paragraph (1) of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE).

"It is still under investigation," he added.

The arrest first came to light through a post by X user @MurtadhaOne1 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The account claimed that the woman was an ITB student. Her arrest for creating the viral meme of Prabowo and Jokowi using artificial intelligence (AI) sparked widespread discussion on social media.

Tempo reached out to ITB’s Head of Communication and Public Relations Bureau, Nurlaela Arief, for confirmation but has yet to receive a response.
