Indonet Invests US$30mn in Fiber Optic Infrastructure Expansion in Greater Jakarta

8 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Indointernet Tbk., known as Indonet, has been investing around US$30 million (approximately Rp496 billion) since 2024 to develop its fiber optic infrastructure.

Yudie Haryanto, Senior Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Indonet, explained that this increased investment enables the handling of larger and more complex data traffic, while also strengthening connections between data centers.

This year, Indonet aims to build a fiber optic network spanning 30 to 40 kilometers in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

"From 2024 until this project is completed, we have allocated approximately US$30 million for the first segment," Yudie said at Restoran Amanaia, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

He noted that since most data centers are concentrated in the Jabodetabek region, Indonet is focusing efforts there but also sees growth opportunities elsewhere.

"Hopefully, once this is completed, we will consider expanding to other cities. We see that there is also a potential for large data centers in other cities, such as Surabaya," he added.

Yudie also mentioned that currently, most of Indonet’s customers belong to the business-to-business (B2B) segment.

This focus stems from the company’s priority to connect inter-data centers, which are often located in office buildings and industrial zones.

However, Indonet also identifies about 20 percent of its market in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment.

"Overall, 80 percent of our focus is on B2B, and the remaining 20 percent we see in B2C, there is an opportunity there, but as long as it passes through the route," he said.

He further explained that Indonet’s fiber optic network links multiple data centers using underground routes, which not only improve network scalability but also enhance physical security and service reliability.

Yudie emphasized Indonesia’s pivotal stage in digital transformation, driven by over 200 million internet users and a rising demand for data services to support digital businesses.

"In response to this, Indonet is strengthening its network infrastructure through the renewal of fiber optics and high-quality devices to support market growth and the digital transformation of customers in strategic locations in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Bogor," he said.

Agus Ariyanto, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations at Indonet, added that the company has installed over ten times more fiber optic capacity in Jakarta and nearby regions.

Complementing this, Indonet is upgrading its Cross-Link product with advanced infrastructure based on Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM).

"This technology allows a backbone speed of up to 800G per channel and supports customer ports up to 400G, providing more scalable, efficient, and future-ready connectivity," Agus said.
