InJourney Floats Parking for Middle East Airlines in Indonesian Airports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's aviation holding company InJourney has mapped out the impact of the Middle East war, which resulted in foreign airlines being stranded at the country's international airports.

The US-Israel war against Iran, which heightened tensions in the Gulf region since late February, has forced major airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, and Saudia, to postpone their departures until today.

Against this backdrop, InJourney is proposing to offer the foreign fleets temporary parking in its airports, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).

InJourney's Senior Vice President Corporate Secretary, Yudhistira Setiawan, revealed that the stranded aircraft have started to affect the primary gateways in Indonesia, such as in Bali and Tangerang.

"Instead of foreign airlines searching far and wide for parking places that may not be secure, it might be better to bring them to Indonesia and park them at our managed airports," said Yudhistira in Yogyakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

InJourney said the proposal has yet to be developed and proposed to relevant stakeholders, as internal reviews are underway.

The initiative will involve several strategic airports in Java and Bali, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Juanda, Kertajati, and Yogyakarta International Airport.

According to Yudhistira, the measure is also intended as support for those affected by armed conflict. "Beyond financial gain, we are prioritizing the humanitarian aspect since our aim is to help those affected by the war," he said.

Indonesia is seeking to help maintain the stability of global aviation services amid the Middle East conflict. InJourney also continues to monitor the broader economic impact of the crises, including the potential surge in energy prices that may affect airfares.

InJourney also prioritizes tourism interests by strengthening the activation of tourist attractions, artistic performances, and hospitality services to boost foreign arrivals, including from the Middle East.

InJourney hopes the initiative could become a solution for international airlines seeking protection for their fleets during the time of war.

Meanwhile, InJourney's Director, Maya Watono, explained that the proposal for temporary parking emerged because airlines consider Indonesia to be relatively safe and strategic amidst global uncertainty.

InJourney Airports has even prepared several additional parking stands, including at Lombok International Airport, to accommodate the needs of airlines requiring parking locations according to the available capacity.
