TEMPO.CO, JakartaMalaysia's Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) has ordered the recall of Indonesian snacks containing porcine, or pork-derived ingredients, from the market. Products linked to the Indonesian halal controversy may have already reached the Malaysian market.

Indonesia previously announced that several halal-certified products tested positive for porcine, sparking public concern across the region. Of the 11 batches affected, seven were found to have halal certification, while two were not certified, according to BPJPH and BPOM Indonesia.

“As an early preventive measure, Jakim has immediately begun joint monitoring with State Islamic Religious Councils (MAIN) and State Islamic Departments (JAIN) to conduct thorough inspections of the products concerned if found in the local market,” Jakim said as reported by Malay Mail

The importers involved have been warned to notify Jakim and withdraw the products from circulation in Malaysia. The department said the move was aimed at protecting Muslim consumers and ensuring only genuine halal products remain on sale.

“Protecting the rights of Muslim consumers and maintaining the integrity of our halal certification system are top priorities,” said JAKIM director-general Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee, as quoted from Sarawak Tribune.

Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), in coordination with the Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), announced the detection of porcine in processed food products circulating in Indonesia. Laboratory testing using DNA and/or pig-specific peptide tests revealed that 11 batches from 9 processed food products contained pig-derived ingredients.
