TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Iranian government imposed internet restrictions following the Israeli airstrike on early Friday, June 13, 2025, as quoted from an Iranwire report.
The airstrike by 200 fighter jets, supported by drones, targeted hundreds of military and nuclear facilities, resulting in the deaths of, among others, the top commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami.
According to the report, the disruption of internet access was immediately felt by the people in Iran. Before the internet restriction was imposed, the Attorney General of Iran was also said to have warned media and social media users of legal threats for content that "disrupts society's psychological security."
From the statement of the IRGC received by Iranwire, Hossein Salami and some of his guards were killed in the line of duty by the "criminal and terrorist" attack on the headquarters of the guard.
The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed retaliation against Israel for the airstrikes.
"The Zionist regime at dawn today extended its vile and bloody hand to commit a crime in our dear country and revealed its evil nature more than ever by striking residential centers," said Khamenei.
Quoting from the analysis of NetBlocks—a global internet monitoring company—internet network connectivity in Iran has dropped sharply today, remaining only at 10-20 percent.
Previously, until the first day of the Israeli airstrike on Iran in Operation Rising Lion last Friday, internet connectivity was still at 99 percent.
Internet access is almost paralyzed in all regions, except in the north. "The measure limits the public’s ability to stay informed on the developing regional conflict," wrote NetBlocks through the social media account X, as quoted on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
