TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The foreign ministers of nine countries across the Middle East and Asia have confirmed their decision to join United States President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza “Board of Peace,” an initiative aimed at managing a transitional phase in the Palestinian enclave and securing a permanent ceasefire.

According to Anadolu News Agency, Initially, eight countries—Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)—welcomed Trump’s invitation to participate in the initiative. In a joint statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the ministers confirmed their collective decision. “The Ministers announce their countries’ shared decision to join the Board of Peace,” the statement said.

The statement added that each country would complete its accession in line with domestic legal procedures. “Each country will sign the joining documents according to their respective relevant legal and other necessary procedures, including the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates, that have already announced to join,” it said.

The ministers reaffirmed their support for peace efforts led by Trump and reiterated their commitment to implementing the Board of Peace’s mandate as a transitional administration for Gaza. The mandate is outlined in the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict and endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

In a subsequent joint statement, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar again emphasized their support for the initiative. “The Ministers reiterate their countries’ support for the peace efforts led by President Trump,” the statement said.

It added that the board’s mission is aimed at “consolidating a permanent ceasefire, supporting the reconstruction of Gaza, and advancing a just and lasting peace grounded in the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood in accordance with international law, thereby paving the way for security and stability for all countries and peoples of the region.”

Later on Wednesday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had also accepted Trump’s invitation, bringing the total number of participating countries to nine, as reported by Al Jazeera.

The announcements came days after the White House unveiled the composition of the Board of Peace as part of Trump’s 20-point plan to end Israel’s war on Gaza. The board includes senior Trump advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The Board of Peace is tasked with overseeing a Palestinian technocratic committee responsible for managing day-to-day affairs in Gaza during a transitional period. The White House has also approved the establishment of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, one of four bodies designated to manage the territory during the transition.

The formation of the board coincided with the launch of the second phase of a ceasefire agreement that halted Israel’s war on Gaza. Since October 2023, the conflict has killed more than 71,000 people and injured over 171,000 others.

Despite the ceasefire, Palestinians in Gaza continue to face Israeli military attacks and restrictions on humanitarian aid. Some residents and observers have questioned how the US-led mechanism will function in practice, particularly given the inclusion of figures regarded as strong supporters of Israel.

On Wednesday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he would take part in the mechanism, despite Netanyahu facing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes committed in Gaza.

Gaza resident Abu Ramzi al-Sandawi rejected Netanyahu’s involvement, calling him “the leader of the war on Gaza.”

“He destroyed our whole world,” al-Sandawi told Al Jazeera in Gaza City. “It’s known that Netanyahu is the cause of this war.”

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 466 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since a US-brokered ceasefire took effect in October.
