Pelni Ferries Transport over 646,000 Passengers During Eid al-Fitr 2025

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned ferry boat operator PT Pelni transported 646,554 passengers over the past month, a period encompassing the Eid al-Fitr travel season from March 16 to April 16, 2025.

President Director of PT Pelni, Tri Andayani, reported that the busiest route during this Eid, or locally known as Lebaran, period was Batam to Medan, serving 25,692 passengers. "Thank God, all transportation for Lebaran went smoothly," Andayani stated in her official statement on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Pelni facilitated travel by providing 12,750 free tickets for the Eid homecoming and return journeys, a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Transportation and several state-owned enterprises, including PLN, Pegadaian Balikpapan, TJSL PELNI, Angkasa Pura, Telkomsel, Persero Batam, Pelindo, and BSI.

Andayani noted that the peak of the homecoming travel during the 2025 Eid holiday season occurred on March 28 (D-3), with 27,741 passengers out of the total 315,128 homecoming travelers. The return travel saw a total of 331,426 passengers, with the highest number traveling on April 12.

Busiest Ports

According to Pelni's official data, the five busiest departure ports were:

1. Makassar (49,798 passengers)

2. Balikpapan (39,228 passengers)

3. Batam (33,199 passengers)

4. Ambon (32,999 passengers)

5. Baubau (31,454 passengers)

Busiest Routes

Pelni also identified the five busiest routes during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday period as:

1. Batam - Medan (25,692 passengers)

2. Medan - Batam (21,592 passengers)

3. Balikpapan - Surabaya (14,195 passengers)

4. Kumai - Semarang (13,463 passengers)

5. Makassar - Surabaya (11,856 passengers)
