Prabowo Praises Jokowi's Inflation Control in Cabinet Session, Denies Link to Gibran's Presence

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for former President Joko Widodo during the Plenary Cabinet Session at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, May 5, 2025, highlighting Jokowi’s success in managing inflation during his administration.

Prabowo, who previously served as Defense Minister, said the acknowledgment was important to share with all members of the Red and White cabinet, emphasizing that it was not influenced by the presence of Jokowi’s eldest son and current Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"It's not because Mr. Gibran is here. This is the result of Jokowi's leadership and management," he said at the Presidential Office, the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, May 5, 2025.

The Head of State stated that Jokowi has good management in controlling inflation. According to Prabowo, this management was gained from his experience as the mayor of Solo.

"Maybe his experience as a mayor allowed him to understand how to control inflation. This isn't taught at Harvard," he said.

Prabowo said that the strength of a government can control inflation or not. He claimed that the current Indonesian government is capable of controlling inflation. According to him, Indonesia's inflation is lower than in other countries.

"Our inflation is one of the lowest in the world. Perhaps among the top 5 lowest. Maybe China has the lowest inflation. This is an achievement," he said.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati mentioned that several countries in ASEAN and G20 are now envious of Indonesia's low inflation rate.

"Currently, we may have the lowest inflation level compared to ASEAN and G20 countries, which has made many countries envious," said Sri Mulyani during the 2025 Mandiri Investment Forum (MIF) in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, as quoted from Antara.

According to this former World Bank Director, the low inflation rate is the result of active monetary and fiscal policies in stabilizing prices. She mentioned that the fiscal policy, among other things, provides incentives to local governments that can control inflation.

She stated that fiscal policy also plays a crucial role in stabilizing and reducing food prices, including rice, chicken, and eggs.
