TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto believes that all parties involved in the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran should be willing to engage in dialogue. He said that this step aims to end the conflict.

The Head of State revealed this in a special interview with the international media Bloomberg last weekend. In the interview, Prabowo spoke about the U.S.-Israel war against Iran. "My suggestion is always to seek peaceful options," said Prabowo in Hambalang, West Java, as quoted from a statement by the Indonesian Government Communication Bureau on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Furthermore, Prabowo also explained Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP) initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. He believes that Indonesia's participation will lead to an independent Palestine through a two-state solution.

The Gerindra Party politician believes that Indonesia's decision to get involved could influence the Board of Peace to establish an independent Palestine.

Meanwhile, Prabowo stated that the plan to send Indonesian troops to Gaza through the International Stabilization Force (ISF) under the command of the Board of Peace is currently postponed. Furthermore, all discussions related to the Board of Peace are suspended due to the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East region.

The geopolitical situation has heated up after the U.S. and Israel launched a sudden attack on Iran at the end of February 2026. The joint military attack launched on Iranian airspace caused damage to infrastructure and civilian casualties.

The U.S.-Israeli attack also killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated by deploying missiles and drones to Israeli territory and all U.S. military facilities in the Middle East.

Amid the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran, President Prabowo offered to serve as a peace mediator. However, he stated that Indonesia would not join any military alliances.

Indonesia is consistently said to uphold the principle of independent foreign policy. This aligns with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, which is not to align with any bloc and actively create world peace.

He stated that Indonesia maintains good relations with other countries. In addition, Indonesia has a defensive military posture. "We cannot be part of any military alliance," said Prabowo.

Prabowo claimed that Indonesia stands on its own feet and does not depend on other countries' power. Therefore, Indonesia must build a strong defense capability. "When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone," said Prabowo.
