TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rescuers have found six bodies of the passengers on the downed ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed on January 17, 2026. The victims were found in the Maros-Pangkep mountainous area, South Sulawesi, during the search operation on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Assistant Operations of Kodam XIV/Hasanuddin, Infantry Colonel Dody Triyo Hadi, said the six bodies were found at around 09:00 a.m., at the depth of 250 to 300 meters below Mount Bulusaraung peak.
The six bodies were within a 50-meter radius from where the first victim was discovered about three days ago. "They are currently being evacuated to the mountain peak," he said.
With this discovery, eight bodies of the 10 people onboard the ATR 42-500 aircraft have been found.
The first two victims who were identified are cabin crew Florencia Lolita Wibisono and a Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries staff Deden Maulana.
Meanwhile, the human body parts found yesterday have not yet been identified. "We found an arm bone yesterday, but we don't know whose body part it is," Dody said.
Additionally, rescuers also found the black box of the Indonesia Air Transport (IAT) ATR 42-500 aircraft at around 11:00 a.m. local time, still attached to a shattered part of the aircraft's tail.
The team then removed the device before evacuation. The black box has now been handed over to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
The IAT ATR 42-500 aircraft with the registration PK-THT was previously reported to have lost contact while attempting to land at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport. The authorities thus far are still collecting data to unveil the cause of the incident.
At the time of the incident, 10 people, including seven crew members and three Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries staff members were onboard. The ministry employees were conducting surveillance duty off the coast of Makassar.
