TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States President Donald Trump's administration has replaced the covid.gov website with a platform that focuses on the theory that the coronavirus originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. NBC News reported this on Friday, as quoted by Antara.
The website, which was previously a center of information related to COVID-19, such as vaccines, testing access, and long-term support for COVID, now directs users to the White House page that refers to the December report by the U.S. House of Representatives' Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, led by the Republican Party.
The report concluded that the pandemic likely started due to an accident related to a laboratory or research.
In a statement to NBC News, White House spokesperson Kaelan Dorr stated that the change reflects the Trump administration's commitment to transparency.
Dorr added that Trump's administration will be the most transparent government in U.S. history, unlike previous administrations.
This move comes weeks after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) trimmed COVID-19 funding by $11.4 billion.
Meanwhile, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has canceled several research grants, including a $577 million project to develop an oral antiviral drug.
