TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received information from the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Jeddah that three individuals suspected of being Indonesian citizens were arrested by Saudi Arabian security forces in Mecca on Tuesday, April 28.

"The three are suspected of being involved in fraudulent and embezzlement practices related to illegal Hajj services, including through the distribution of fake Hajj service advertisements on social media," said Heni Hamidah, Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by ANTARA.

According to Heni, Saudi Arabian security forces found several pieces of evidence, including money, computer equipment, and suspected counterfeit Hajj cards. Two of the three men were reportedly wearing Indonesian Hajj officials' attire at the time of their arrest.

"Currently, KJRI in Jeddah is verifying the identities of the perpetrators and coordinating with the local government to oversee the subsequent legal process in accordance with applicable regulations," Heni said.

KJRI in Jeddah reiterated its call for Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia to comply fully with the Saudi Arabian government's Hajj regulations, including the principle of "no Hajj without official permission."

Heni also emphasized that Saudi Arabia is currently stepping up law enforcement efforts against various illegal Hajj violations, such as the unauthorized entry of pilgrims into the city of Mecca.

She again urged Indonesian citizens not to be swayed easily by offers of unofficial Hajj services, especially those spread through social media. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that the entire Hajj process is carried out through official channels and in accordance with applicable regulations.
