Harry Kane to Receive Second European Golden Shoe After 36-Goal Bundesliga Season

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will receive the European Golden Shoe on August 19 after finishing as Europe's top league goalscorer in the 2025/26 season with 36 Bundesliga goals.

As reported by the Bundesliga website, Kane collected 72 points in the Golden Shoe standings, finishing comfortably ahead of Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé. The award recognizes the leading goalscorer across Europe's domestic leagues, with goals in the Bundesliga carrying a two-point value.

The presentation ceremony will take place at the FC Bayern Museum in Munich and will be jointly hosted by the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, kicker and European Sports Media (ESM), which administers the award.

This will be Kane's second European Golden Shoe after his triumph in the 2023/24 season. According to FC Bayern, Kane joins an exclusive group of players who have won the award twice, although only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have claimed it more times.

Kane is also the third Bayern player to win the prestigious award after club legends Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski. Müller won it in 1970 and 1972, while Lewandowski claimed the honor in 2021 and 2022.

Kane's Record-Breaking Season

Kane enjoyed another prolific campaign in 2025/26, scoring 73 goals in 65 competitive appearances for Bayern Munich and England, while also providing eight assists.

FC Bayern reported that Kane's 73 goals represented the second-highest tally by a player in a single season in the 21st century, behind only Lionel Messi's 73 goals for Barcelona in the 2011/12 campaign.

His goals helped Bayern win the Bundesliga title, the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup and the DFB Cup. Kane scored a hat-trick in the DFB Cup final in Berlin and finished as the competition's top scorer.

According to FC Bayern website, Kane was also crowned Bundesliga top scorer for a third consecutive season and finished second in the Champions League scoring chart.

He has additionally become the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a club in one of Europe's five major domestic leagues.

Kane's achievements have extended to the international stage. As England captain, he helped the national team achieve its best World Cup finish since 1966, scoring crucial goals during qualifying and the tournament.

FC Bayern noted that Kane is England's all-time leading scorer and the most prolific British player in World Cup history. He has also scored more goals at the last four major tournaments than any other European player.

Bayern Praises Kane's Influence

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer praised Kane for continuing the club's tradition of elite goalscorers, comparing his impact with that of Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

“Kane stands alongside striking legends like Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at FC Bayern,” Hainer said, according to FC Bayern.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also highlighted Kane's influence beyond his goals, saying the England captain consistently prioritizes the team's interests over individual achievements.

“He’s raised FC Bayern and the Bundesliga to a new level,” Dreesen said.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl emphasized Kane's intelligence and contribution away from the scoresheet, particularly his timing, awareness and ability to create space for teammates.

Kane's outstanding season has also put him among the leading contenders for this year's The Best FIFA Men's Player award, according to FC Bayern.

Kane Continues Bayern's Golden Shoe Tradition

Kane's second Golden Shoe adds another chapter to Bayern Munich's long association with Europe's premier individual goalscoring award.

According to the Bundesliga, Bayern has once again produced Europe's most prolific league goalscorer, following in the footsteps of Müller and Lewandowski.

Müller was the first Bayern player to win the award, taking the honor in 1970 and 1972. Lewandowski followed with victories in 2021 and 2022 before Kane became the club's latest two-time winner.

The Golden Shoe was administered by French sports newspaper L'Équipe from 1968 to 1991. Since 1997, the award has been managed by European Sports Media, with kicker taking the lead in its administration, according to FC Bayern.

Other legendary winners include Messi, Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Francesco Totti, Marco van Basten, Hristo Stoichkov and Eusébio.

Two other Bundesliga players also finished among Europe's leading scorers in 2025/26. According to the Bundesliga's final standings, VfB Stuttgart's Deniz Undav ranked ninth, while Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy finished 13th.

The Golden Shoe ceremony for Kane will be streamed live on the Bundesliga's official platforms, including the Bundesliga app and YouTube channel, in both German and English.
