TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Glass manufacturer PT Muliaglass and ceramic manufacturer PT Muliakeramik Indahraya, in collaboration with renewable energy company Xurya, have officially launched Indonesia's largest commercial and industrial rooftop solar power plant (PLTS Atap). The project has a total capacity of 22.5 megawatts (MW).

In addition to its scale, the facility is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 26.8 million kilograms per year and decrease coal dependence by 20,189 kilograms annually.

The installation comprises 36,862 solar panel modules spanning 122,783 square meters, approximately 12.2 hectares. This area is equivalent to 17 times the size of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) football field.

Emmy Suryandari, Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency at the Ministry of Industry, stated at the inauguration that the project aligns with Indonesia's commitment to addressing climate change and reaching Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets.

"This rooftop solar power plant is part of the commitment to address climate change in Indonesia, which targets NZE by 2060. However, for the manufacturing sector, under the Minister’s direction, we aim to achieve NZE for the industrial sector by 2050," she said at the Mulia Industri Complex, Cikarang, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

She added that reaching this target requires industrial support through decarbonization strategies, including energy and material efficiency, low-carbon fuel use, updated industrial processes, electrification, renewable energy, and carbon capture.

"This is very relevant to the decarbonization strategy set by the Ministry of Industry," Emmy said. "I hope this can be replicated. Naturally, the industry believes in what they see. If successful industries serve as examples, others will follow, rather than just believing in what is presented."

Emmy noted that if the installation provides significant cost savings, other industries will likely follow suit.

Meanwhile, Harris, Secretary of the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, reported that national rooftop solar capacity continues to grow. "In 2026, we noted that rooftop solar power plants installed for PLN customers reached 861.4 MWp from 11,840 customers," he said.

Harris explained that while households account for 60 percent of the customer base, the industrial sector holds the largest share of installed capacity at 79 percent.

"By developing rooftop solar plants optimally, especially in the industrial sector, we hope other industries in Indonesia will follow, as the opportunities remain wide," Harris added.

Yondri Zulfaldi, Vice President of Sales Management at state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, believes the project demonstrates collaboration between the government, PLN, and the private sector in driving the energy transition.

"The industrial sector is one of the largest energy users, so the transformation towards clean energy in this sector has a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency," he said.

He concluded that the implementation of rooftop solar power plants is a concrete step toward a greener, more competitive, and sustainable industrial landscape.
