TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia of the Bangka Belitung Islands encourages foreign tourists visiting Belitung Island to use QRIS Cross Border, following the launch of a new flight route Belitung-Singapore by Scoot airline.

Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia Bangka Belitung, Farid Tamsil, said that QRIS Cross Border enables Indonesian citizens and Singaporean tourists to make payments using their respective country's payment applications.

"Currently, QRIS Cross Border can be utilized in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and, the latest, South Korea. Tourists no longer need to physically exchange currencies, making transactions more practical and efficient," said Farid on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

According to Farid, the opening of the international flight route from Belitung to Singapore serves as momentum for local businesses to easily reach the global market and improve service quality for tourists.

"We also want to ensure that all businesses, especially MSMEs and the tourism sector, are ready to adopt and utilize QRIS, including for cross-border transactions," he said.

Farid mentioned that Bank Indonesia is committed to working closely with local governments, banking institutions, and industries in facilitating consumer consumption, particularly through expanding the acceptance of digital systems, enhancing literacy and education for the public, as well as ensuring the security and reliability of payment systems.

"We believe that the digitalization of transactions not only enhances public convenience, but also promotes transparency and efficiency, which ultimately contributes to regional economic growth," he said.

Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Belitung District Government, Paryanta, added that they appreciate Bank Indonesia's role in expanding digital transactions for local governments.

"The implementation of non-cash payment channels is crucial in efforts to improve operational efficiency and service quality for tourists," he said.
