Indonesia vs Singapore: Garuda Confident in AFF Cup Clash

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team midfielder Marc Klok said the Garuda squad is confident facing Singapore in their final Group A fixture of the 2026 ASEAN Championship, formerly known AFF Cup, at Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore, on Friday, August 7.

"We are very confident. I think the starting point for a team is confidence," Klok told a pre-match press conference, as quoted by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) in Jakarta on Thursday.

Indonesia currently occupies third place in Group A with six points, trailing second-placed Singapore by a single point. Vietnam tops the standings, level on seven points with Singapore.

Therefore, the match against Singapore represents a decisive fixture for coach John Herdman's squad as they aim to secure a spot in the semifinals by finishing among the top two teams in Group A. Indonesia must secure a win to guarantee a spot in the top four.

Klok also confirmed that he and his teammates have put their previous 0-3 defeat against Vietnam behind them. He stressed that the entire squad has accepted that loss as an inevitable chapter in their football journey.

"I think the strongest way to demonstrate a team's identity is the ability to bounce back when the going gets tough," Klok said.

He emphasized that the Garuda squad stands fully prepared to take the pitch and give their utmost effort for the Indonesian public. "We believe in the coach's plan, every player supports it, and everyone is united in a close-knit community," Klok said.

The Persib Bandung midfielder noted that all support elements, including current match preparation, have been exceptional and unprecedented. He noted that the environment and facilities provided allow all players to perform with confidence.

"Now it's our job as a team to demonstrate that confidence tomorrow and deliver the result everyone deserves," he said.
