iPhone 17 Pro Won't Feature Anti-Reflective Screen Due to Production Issues

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is reported to cancel the use of anti-reflective screen on the iPhone 17 Pro due to issues in the coating process.

"The process for adding the anti-reflective coating to the iPhone display was too slow when taking into account the millions of devices that Apple produces, so even though it was only planned for the Pro models, it still seems that it wasn't feasible this year," wrote MacRumors, quoted on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

The use of this anti-reflective screen is designed to be more durable than the ceramic shield screen ever developed by Apple.

This anti-reflective screen is also meant to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which uses the same screen but produced by Corning with the Gorilla Glass Armor product.

According to MacRumors, the current iPhone models have oleophobic fingerprint-resistant coatings, but Apple is not particularly focused on anti-reflective technology. In the Mac and iPad Pro products, Apple offers nano-texture screens that reduce glare, but this has not been extended to the iPhone. There is a possibility that Apple will switch to nano texture or simpler coatings.

In the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung introduced the Gorilla Glass Armor screen panel, capable of reducing reflections by up to 75 percent. This technology will enhance contrast in bright lighting conditions and make colors appear vivid even under the sunlight or in brightly lit rooms.

If the iPhone 17 model does not incorporate the planned anti-reflective screen feature, it is possible that the American company could introduce screen enhancements in future iPhone models.
