Iranian Missiles Strike Tel Aviv; Sirens Wail Across Israel

15 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIran launched a massive retaliatory strike against Israel on Friday, June 13, 2025, firing approximately 100 missiles in two waves of attacks. As reported by Axios, these retaliatory strikes commenced 18 hours after Israel initiated the war against Iran. The Israeli actions had targeted nuclear facilities and missile sites and had resulted in the deaths of Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists.

Quoting CNN, Iran asserted that it had attacked Israel's military-industrial complexes used for missile production and other military equipment. Iran further claimed that field reports, satellite images, and intercepted intelligence indicated that dozens of ballistic missiles effectively hit strategic targets.

According to an Israeli and a senior U.S. official, the United States assisted in intercepting the incoming ballistic missiles. During an emergency session of the UN Security Council on Friday, a U.S. representative unequivocally stated that Iran should not target American interests or personnel.

"Let me be crystal clear: no government, proxy, or independent actor should target American citizens, American bases, or other American infrastructure in the region. The consequences for Iran would be dire," said the U.S. representative at the UN Security Council, as quoted by Axios.

Minutes before 9 PM local time, sirens blared across Israel, signaling an incoming attack. Israel's defense system launched dozens of Arrow missiles in an attempt to intercept the incoming strikes.

Eyewitnesses and videos shared online confirmed that several Iranian missiles struck central Tel Aviv. Israel's emergency services reported that 21 people were confirmed injured.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in his televised address on Iranian government TV shortly before the attack, declared that Iran's armed forces would render Israel powerless. Khamenei stressed that Iran would respond with its full military might.

"The Iranian nation won't permit the blood of its valued martyrs to go unavenged, nor will it ignore the violation of its airspace," he said. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated in a release that they had targeted dozens of military objectives, including air force bases.

Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, declared that Iran had crossed a red line by daring to fire missiles at civilian population centers in Israel. "We will continue to protect the citizens of Israel and ensure that the ayatollah regime pays a very heavy price for its criminal actions," he stated.

Iran's state media reported that at least 78 people were killed and over 300 injured in Israel's attack the previous night, with the majority of casualties being civilians. Israel had targeted launch sites and command and control centers in Iran to mitigate the anticipated retaliation. Israel also stated that its attack on Iran would continue for at least several days, and possibly weeks.
