TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will implement Car Free Night (CFN) on Sudirman-Thamrin Street during the eve of Eid al-Fitr, barring private vehicles from passing through the area starting at 10:00 p.m. local time.

"Private vehicles are prohibited, while TransJakarta continues to operate to allow residents to carry on with their activities," said Pramono when met at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

The vehicle restriction will remain in place until the series of takbiran (a festive eve of Eid tradition where people recite takbir) activities is completed. Meanwhile, TransJakarta will operate to allow residents to access the area with public transportation.

In addition to the Car Free Night event, Jakarta is also readying several activities to enliven Ramadan. On March 12, 2026, a Hijab Fashion Show will be held in the Tanah Abang area. Then, on March 19, there will be a Bedug Festival in the evening followed by a torchlight parade.

"Mudik to Jakarta" Homecoming Program

The Jakarta government has also launched a program called "Mudik to Jakarta." Claimed to be the first of its kind, this program aims at attracting tourists who do not return to their respective hometowns to spend the Eid holiday in Jakarta.

Pramono said the main tagline for the program is "Vacant Jakarta, Joyful Holiday and Shopping, Profit Gained" (Jakarta Lengang, Liburan dan Belanja Senang, Cuan Datang).

Homecoming exodus is expected to remain high during Eid this year, resulting in a quieter Jakarta, which is deemed an opportunity for tourism and trade to flourish in the city.

Several shopping centers in Jakarta, according to Pramono, will offer discounts during Ramadan and leading up to Eid. The discounts offered range from 70 to 80 percent through the Ramadan Sale program, which will run from March 4 to 31, 2026.
