TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian nationals celebrated Eid al-Adha with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Beirut, Lebanon, on Friday, June 6, 2025. The Eid al-Adha celebration was also attended by the Maritime Task Force (MTF) of the Indonesian Garuda Contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
In an official release from the KBRI Beirut, celebrating this Islamic holiday became a momentum to strengthen solidarity among fellow expatriates in Lebanon.
The activities began with the Eid al-Adha prayer led by Ahmad Ramadhan, the interim Charge d'Affaires of the KBRI Beirut. He also acted as the khatib (the one who delivers the sermon).
In his sermon, Ahmad invited the congregation to express gratitude for the peace enjoyed by the Indonesian nation and to cultivate love for the homeland even though they are far from their hometown.
After the prayer, the KBRI Beirut held the sacrifice of qurbani animals with the community and MTF UNIFIL TNI personnel. A total of five goats were slaughtered as qurbani animals, and the meat was distributed to Indonesian nationals and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon as a form of cross-border solidarity.
The Eid al-Adha celebration was complemented by free health check-ups provided by the Medical Team of KRI SIM 367, which received high enthusiasm from the residents.
During the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Indonesian dishes such as chicken opor, satay, goat curry, lontong (pressed rice), and various traditional snacks also enlivened the event. For many Indonesian nationals, the taste of the archipelago served as a balm for homesickness.
"Eid al-Adha is not only a time for worship, but also a time to strengthen bonds, show concern, and promote nationalism," said the Functionary for Protocol and Consular Affairs of the KBRI Beirut, Andri Noviansyah.
Andri emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance amidst the dynamics of the security situation in Lebanon. He also urged Indonesian nationals to always carry identification and follow the guidelines set by KBRI Beirut.
