TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reiterated that his country will remain loyal to Russia, affirming that Pyongyang will "always be with Moscow."

According to a report by North Korea's KCNA news agency on Wednesday, Kim made the statement in response to President Vladimir Putin's congratulations following his re-election as President of the State Affairs Commission.

Kim described the relationship between North Korea and Russia as an "alliance of strong mutual support."

"Pyongyang will always be with Moscow. This is our choice and unshakable will," the North Korean leader said as reported by Anadolu.

In his congratulatory message, Putin expressed his commitment to maintaining close cooperation to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.

Kim Jong Un was re-elected as President of the State Affairs Commission, North Korea's highest governing body, during the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang on Sunday, March 22.

North Korea and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in 2024, committing to provide mutual military support should either party be attacked by a third power.

In August 2025, North Korea reportedly dispatched 1,000 military engineers to Russia's Kursk region to assist Russian troops in clearing landmines planted during the conflict with Ukraine.

This deployment followed an initial dispatch of 15,000 combat personnel to support Russia's war effort against Ukraine, according to South Korea's intelligence agency.
