TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, mentioned that the number of spectators at the MotoGP Indonesia at Mandalika Circuit (MotoGP Mandalika) in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, reached up to 142,000 people.
"Incredible, an overwhelming response. As many as 142,000 people attended MotoGP Mandalika," he said at the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok Regency, on Sunday.
Erick Thohir appreciates the success of the most prestigious motorcycle racing event in the world, and this success is inseparable from the roles of all parties, starting from the central government, local government, industry players, and the Ministry of Tourism.
"This is an achievement that we can all witness, as we work together to ensure that the MotoGP event is an important part of promoting Indonesia," said Erick Thohir.
According to him, the success of MotoGP at the Mandalika Circuit should not stop at euphoria. Continuous evaluations must be improved, especially in enhancing tourism facilities and the availability of accommodations in the Mandalika area and its surroundings.
For this reason, the former Minister of State-Owned Enterprises emphasized that the central government continues to encourage investment. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has also invited the Deputy Minister of Investment to attract new investors in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
"Hopefully, the number of hotels and investments can be increased. If Indonesia was successful in developing Nusa Dua, then Mandalika can also be successful," he said.
Furthermore, Erick Thohir stated that the success of MotoGP in Mandalika is not only a sporting success but also has a national economic impact, reaching Rp4.8 trillion.
Meanwhile, the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, acknowledged the impact of MotoGP in Mandalika on the local economy, which is very tangible for the local community.
"This is real, and the rooms occupied are not only in Mandalika but also in the second ring of Mataram and the third ring of Senggigi. This is due to very high occupancy rates and significantly higher prices," he said.
Not only that, Iqbal, the familiar nickname of the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, stated that the involvement of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is also much greater. In the MotoGP of 2024, there were 60, but this year there were 120 MSMEs involved.
"So, from the top to the bottom, the economy is affected by MotoGP. So, this momentum is good for the rise of our MSMEs," said Iqbal.
