PDIP Politician Says Prabowo-Megawati Talked Face to Face for 1.5 Hours

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PDIP politician and spokesperson Guntur Romli stated that the meeting between Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto took place at Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta. The two held a four-eyes discussion on Monday, April 7, 2025.

"Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo held a four-eyes discussion for about 1.5 hours," said Guntur Romli in a written statement to Tempo on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

He stated that the sudden arrival of the Gerindra chairman at Megawati's residence caused many parties to be unaware beforehand.

Guntur revealed that the four-eyes meeting largely discussed more personal matters about their friendship. Although sudden, Guntur said the meeting had actually been planned for a long time.

"However, due to their busy schedules, this is the first time that the meeting could take place," he said.

Aside from the meeting, Prabowo also gave Megawati a wide assortment of vegetables in a parcel for the Eid al-Fitr.

"Mrs. Megawati likes large-sized tomatoes as one of the types of vegetables in the parcel. In fact, Mrs. Megawati wants to get the tomato plant seeds to plant by herself," said Guntur.

According to Guntur, the chairwoman of his party often mentioned on many occasions that she felt no barrier to building relations with President Prabowo, even though the current political position of PDIP is still outside the government.

Guntur mentioned that the planned meeting of these two figures was scheduled during a visit from the Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, to Megawati's residence on December 25, 2024. During that meeting, Megawati left some medicated oil for Prabowo.

In addition to personal topics, the 5th and 8th Presidents of Indonesia also discussed global issues such as the US-China Trade War, the Israel-Arab conflict, the Russia-Ukraine War, the tension in the South China Sea and global warming and its impact on Indonesia.

In addition, the two chairpersons of political parties also discussed strategic national issues, especially matters related to the safety and welfare of the people in accordance with Pancasila, the state ideology of Indonesia.

"Finally, President Prabowo and Mrs. Megawati are committed to continuing communication and coordination, especially when it comes to national and international strategic interests," said Guntur.

Executive Secretary of the Central Leadership Council of the Gerindra Party Sufmi Dasco Ahmad confirmed the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati Soekarnoputri on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Dasco said the gathering took place at Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta, in the spirit of Eid al-Fitr festivities.
