Prabowo Claims New Rules Triple Some Ride-Hailing Drivers' Earnings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto said the Indonesian government has introduced revenue-sharing rules aimed at giving online motorcycle taxi drivers a larger share of fares collected through ride-hailing platforms.

Under the new arrangement, drivers' share has increased from around 80 percent to 92 percent, Prabowo said in his state address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.

“We have also introduced a fairer revenue-sharing arrangement for online motorcycle taxi drivers and app operators,” Prabowo said.

Drivers Get Larger Share

Prabowo said the policy was intended to ensure drivers receive a more reasonable share of the income generated from their work.

He said drivers previously received about 80 percent of their earnings, while ride-hailing companies took the remaining 20 percent.

Following the government's recommendation on revenue sharing, the drivers' share has risen to 92 percent, he said.

“Previously, online motorcycle taxi drivers received only 80 percent of what they earned because the app operators took 20 percent. But with the government's recommendation, I don't want to call it an intervention, I'll call it a recommendation, although it was somewhat of an intervention, drivers now receive 92 percent of the fruits of their labor,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo Claims Income Has Risen

Prabowo also claimed the new revenue-sharing arrangement had improved drivers' earnings, citing reports from drivers who said their income had increased significantly.

“Many drivers have reported that their income has increased significantly. Some say it has doubled, while others say it has tripled,” he said.

The comments came as the government seeks to regulate the relationship between ride-hailing drivers and app-based companies, particularly over how fares and earnings are divided.
