Prabowo: Indonesia Does Not Interfere in Other Countries' Internal Affairs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia does not want to interfere in the internal affairs of other nations. According to Prabowo, he will maintain this stance throughout his term. Prabowo conveyed this stance during his speech at the Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2026.

In his speech, Prabowo discussed peace and a desire for friendship with all nations of the world. The Indonesian nation, under his leadership, said Prabowo, is determined to maintain friendship and good relations with all nations, countries, and world powers. "We do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of any country," Prabowo said.

Prabowo said this stance is the path chosen by Indonesia's founding fathers. "We respect all powers in the world, large and small," said the Chair of the Gerindra Party.

According to Prabowo, maintaining peace is a teaching of almost all religions and all their leaders. "We will work very hard to maintain peace," said the former defense minister.

The Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace was attended by government and parliamentary officials. Among those present were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani. Islamic religious leaders such as Quraish Shihab were also in attendance.

Prabowo's speech at this Nuzulul Quran commemoration was delivered amidst the war in the Middle East. The escalation of conflict in the region occurred after the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, 2026.

The airstrike on Tehran, Iran's capital, killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated against Israel and neighboring countries with US military bases. US-Israeli attacks on Iran also continued.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the conflict in the region entered its 11th day. The war also caused the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a global oil supply route. On the same day, United States President Donald Trump declared that the war his country and Israel were waging against Iran would soon end.
