Prabowo to Mark Eid in Aceh and North Sumatra

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah in Aceh and North Sumatra. In addition to West Sumatra, both areas were affected by floods and landslides at the end of last year.

Prabowo is scheduled to depart for North Sumatra this Friday evening, March 20, 2026. He plans to spend the night of the last day of Ramadan in the province. "Pak President will spend the night of Takbiran in North Sumatra," said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his statement.

After North Sumatra, Prabowo will continue his journey to Aceh. "Insha Allah (Prabowo) will perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer in Aceh tomorrow morning," said Teddy.

Leading up to this year's Eid al-Fitr, Prabowo urged his staff to celebrate the holiday modestly. He asked officials not to be extravagant in holding open houses or gatherings.

He stated that Indonesia currently needs to be thrifty, starting with its officials. "We also have to set an example, open houses should not be too extravagant," said Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 13, 2026.

Furthermore, Prabowo believes that officials should not indulge in extravagance while many people in the country are affected by disasters. "Our brothers and sisters in disaster-stricken areas, and in this atmosphere, we should set an example for the people," said the Chair of the Gerindra Party.

Nevertheless, Prabowo stated that the ban on extravagance does not mean officials are not allowed to hold open houses. He mentioned that various celebrations during the holiday are still necessary to keep the economy running. "But we also shouldn't completely shut everything down. Otherwise, our economy won't function," he said.

On March 16, 2026, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi issued a circular regarding the regulations for open houses for officials. The circular, numbered B-40/M/S/HL.OO/03/2026 was addressed to the cabinet ministers, the attorney general, the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the chief of the Indonesian National Police, and the heads of government institutions.

The circular reminds us that there are still disaster-affected areas throughout the country. Therefore, through the Ministry of State Secretary, the President urges open house activities or post-Ramadan gatherings that directly benefit the public, such as social gatherings.
