6 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Saudia Airlines flight, en route from Jeddah to Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, made an emergency landing at Kualanamu Airport in Medan, North Sumatra after a security threat was detected, prompting the activation of contingency procedures by the airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports). The flight SV-5726 was carrying Hajj pilgrims returning to Indonesia.

Upon detecting the threat, the pilot decided to divert the landing to the nearest airport. "The nearest airport when Saudia SV-5726 flew over was Kualanamu Airport," said Anak Agung Ngurah Pranajaya, PGS Corporate Secretary Group Head of InJourney Airports, in a written statement on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

He reported that the aircraft landed at Kualanamu Airport at approximately 10:44 AM local time to undergo security and safety procedures.

InJourney Airports affirmed that all airports under its management are prepared to handle emergency situations, including security threats to flights. To ensure the safety of passengers and operations, both Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Kualanamu Airport activated their Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs), involving their respective Airport Security Committees.

"The main focus at all times is to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and airport service users," Anak Agung emphasized.

InJourney Airports stated it would continue to provide periodic updates on the situation's development.
