TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tiktok has decided to provide the data requested by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology (Kemenkomdigi) regarding the recent tumultuous demonstrations at the end of August. The government requested daily traffic data, usage escalation of the live feature, as well as data on gifts and monetization from accounts suspected of online gambling.
A TikTok spokesperson stated that the platform remains committed to protecting user privacy despite providing data to the government. "It is indeed our commitment," said the TikTok spokesperson when contacted on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
As reported earlier, Kemenkomdigi temporarily suspended TikTok's Electronic System Provider Registration (TDPSE) for allegedly failing to provide the requested data.
Initially, TikTok had refused to provide the data requested by the government. The TikTok delegation declined to further explain the reasons for eventually agreeing to provide the requested data. "We apologize for not issuing any further statements," said the TikTok spokesperson.
The Director-General of Digital Space Monitoring at Kemenkomdigi, Alexander Sabar, stated that TikTok only partially provided data on live activities during the demonstrations from August 25 to 30, 2025.
Sabar mentioned that TikTok's refusal to provide data was suspected of violating the regulations in Indonesia. As a result, Kemenkomdigi temporarily suspended TikTok's Electronic System Provider Registration on October 2, 2025.
Sabar explained that Kemenkomdigi had summoned TikTok on September 16, 2025, before imposing the temporary suspension. During the summon, TikTok was asked to directly clarify the suspicion of monetizing live activities from accounts suspected of online gambling during the August demonstrations.
After providing the clarification, TikTok was given the opportunity by Kemenkomdigi to fully submit the requested data on September 23, 2025. Through an official letter, TikTok stated its inability to provide the requested data. "TikTok has internal policies and procedures that govern how to handle and respond to data requests," Sabar explained the content of the letter sent by TikTok to the government.
The temporary suspension of TikTok's TDPSE lasted only one day. In a letter dated October 3, 2025, TikTok informed that they had submitted the requested data to the government.
Sabar stated that his ministry then comprehensively analyzed the data submitted by TikTok. Based on the analysis results, TikTok had fulfilled its obligation to provide the requested data. "Based on this fulfillment of obligations, we are ending the temporary suspension status of TDPSE and reactivating TikTok's status as a registered PSE," Sabar said in his statement on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
