TNI to Reveal Suspect in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack After Probe Completed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Armed Forces Headquarters (Mabes TNI) has responded to demands to release the photos of the four alleged perpetrators of the acid attack against human rights activist Andrie Yunus. The head of the TNI Information Center, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the investigation into the case is still ongoing.

According to him, the four alleged perpetrators will be released to the public after the entire investigation is complete. The TNI Military Police Headquarters (Puspom TNI) claimed to have detained the four alleged perpetrators from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) unit since Wednesday, March 18, 2026. "Please wait until the entire investigation process conducted by the investigators from Puspom TNI is completed," Aulia said when contacted on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The Advocacy Team for Democracy demanded the release of photos of the four alleged perpetrators. This team consists of several non-governmental organizations such as the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta), KontraS, LBH Pers, Imparsial, Trend Asia, Amar Law Firms, and Greenpeace Indonesia.

Through a statement sent by KontraS executive Jane Rosalina, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) doubted the results of the investigation by the TNI Military Police Headquarters into the case of the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, the Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

This doubt is due to the lack of transparency from the defense institution to the public regarding the four alleged perpetrators who are claimed to have been arrested. During their press conference, the TNI only revealed the initials of the four alleged perpetrators: Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES.

According to TAUD, the statement by the TNI cannot be confirmed as true. The defense institution did not provide complete information about the initial evidence used to identify the four alleged perpetrators. "We urge Puspom TNI to be transparent and accountable by releasing photos or showing the perpetrators directly," TAUD said in their press release on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Publishing photos of the alleged perpetrators is important so the public can verify the statement's truthfulness. Moreover, there are differences in the information provided by Puspom TNI and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police in the investigation of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.

The police released information and photos of two alleged perpetrators of the acid attack based on the evidence collected. Based on the evidence, the initials of the two alleged perpetrators are BHC and MAK.

Therefore, TAUD urges President Prabowo Subianto to immediately establish an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team with clear authority and legal regulation. This independent team is requested to accommodate elements of law enforcement, civil society, and individuals with integrity.
