Trump Vows to Hit Iran 'Very Hard' As Tehran Says It Will Not Surrender

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Saturday, appearing to respond to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s statement earlier in the day.

On Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran had “surrendered to its Middle East neighbours, and promised that it will not shoot at them any more,” adding that this outcome was only possible “because of the relentless U.S. and Israeli attack.”

He further added that, "Today Iran will be hit very hard! Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behavior, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time,” signaling potential escalation in the region.

Earlier, in a prerecorded state television address, Pezeshkian vowed that Tehran would never surrender to Israel or the United States as the Middle East conflict entered its second week.

He described calls for Iran’s unconditional surrender as a “dream they should take to their grave,” reiterating national defiance.

The remarks come after US and Israeli strikes on February 28 killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting Iran to launch missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli interests across the region, primarily in Gulf states. The situation has raised international concerns over escalating civilian and military casualties.

Pezeshkian, one of three members of an interim leadership council governing Iran following Khamenei’s death, also issued an apology to neighboring countries affected by Iranian attacks, emphasizing that they would not be targeted unless strikes originated from their territory.

“I must apologise on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighbouring countries that were attacked by Iran,” he said.

The comments came amid ongoing Iranian strikes on Gulf states, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, while Israeli and US airstrikes continued across Iran, intensifying regional tensions and fears of wider conflict.
