TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Patrick Kluivert, has affirmed that his team will take seriously the final match of the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against hosting team Japan.
The result of the match, which will be played on Tuesday, June 10th, at Suita City Stadium, Osaka Prefecture, will not affect the journey of both teams in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Japan has secured their place in the final round, while Indonesia has secured a ticket to the fourth round.
"This is a serious game. We are playing away against the leader of Group C, who have already qualified for the World Cup. So, we have to play in our own (style)," said Patrick Kluivert, as quoted from an audio recording received by reporters in Jakarta on Monday.
"Although it will be a very difficult game, everyone knows that. But we have prepared ourselves and will try to give our best tomorrow," he said.
According to the Dutch coach, the match is not only about the result but also a crucial mental and tactical test for the Indonesian players.
"We come with a lot of confidence," he added.
Regarding the possibility of player rotation or strategic experiments, Patrick Kluivert hinted at potential changes, although he has not confirmed the composition of the starting players.
"We will see at tomorrow's game. I can't say yet how many players we will be changing or even whether I'm going to change them. But it's a good question. Of course, we have studied Japan's match against Australia," he said.
