11 Indonesians Evacuated from Iran Land Safely in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 11 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were evacuated from Iran have arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday night, June 24, 2025. Their return is part of the first phase evacuation process carried out by Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the escalating Iran-Israel conflict.

"Alhamdulillah, around 17.35, 11 out of the 97 people we evacuated have arrived in Jakarta," said Director General of Protocol and Consular at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andy Rachmianto, to the media at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The 11 Indonesian citizens are from two provinces, East Java and East Kalimantan.

He explained that all the Indonesian citizens are in good health despite the long journey since being evacuated from Tehran and surrounding cities to the Azerbaijan border, then to Baku, before being sent to Indonesia. The evacuation has been ongoing since June 20, 2025.

"Their journey was very long. They had to wait in Baku for several days to schedule their flights to Jakarta," said Andy.

The 11 Indonesian citizens were flown from Istanbul to Jakarta using Turkish Airlines with flight number TK56. The Airbus A350 aircraft took off from Istanbul International Airport at 02.16 local time.

He mentioned that a total of 97 Indonesian citizens have been successfully evacuated from Iran, including one foreign national married to an Indonesian citizen. However, not all of them have arrived in Indonesia. Another 18 people experienced flight disturbances due to the closure of Qatari airspace.

"Two planes carrying our 18 compatriots were diverted to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for several hours. But Alhamdulillah, they have been flown from Jeddah to Doha," he said. The government is still waiting for the next flight schedule from Doha to Jakarta.

Meanwhile, 68 other Indonesian citizens are still in Baku awaiting the schedule for the next phase of repatriation. "Colleagues from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and Baku are working on scheduling their flights for their immediate return," said Andy.

He added that the government has received additional requests from other Indonesian citizens who wish to be evacuated, so it is certain that there will be a second phase of evacuation. "We are continuously monitoring the numbers as they increase every day," he said.

Andy also explained that the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region has the potential to complicate the next evacuations. The Indonesian government, he said, is intensively monitoring the geopolitical situation, including the potential for flight disruptions in the airspace of surrounding countries.

"The situation is still very dynamic. For example, last night, Qatar closed its airspace for several hours. This directly impacts the international flight schedules, including those carrying our citizens," said Andy.

He also mentioned that the government has formed a cross-ministerial team to respond quickly to the crisis. "We have prepared a cross-ministerial team working 24/7 to monitor developments and coordinate the evacuations," said Andy.

Local governments are also involved in the repatriation process. According to Andy, the East Java and East Kalimantan provincial governments have directly welcomed their residents who have arrived in Jakarta. They will soon be facilitated to return to their respective hometowns.

"We would like to express our gratitude to all parties, especially the local governments who have promptly assisted in the handover and reintegration process of these Indonesian citizens," said Andy.
