TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Danish badminton men's singles player Anders Antonsen secured the Indonesia Open 2025 title after his third appearance in the championship final. He defeated Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen with scores of 22-20 and 21-14 in the final match at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Prior to this victory, Antonsen had reached the final of the Indonesia Open, but on both occasions, he was narrowly defeated after intensely contested three-game matches. In 2019, he was defeated by Chou Tien Chen, and last year, he lost to China's Shi Yu Qi.
This time, Antonsen successfully avenged his 2019 loss to Chou Tien Chen. Immediately after securing his victory, the 28-year-old player appeared to shed tears. This marks Antonsen's fifth win in 13 encounters against Chou Tien Chen. It took him one hour to defeat the Taiwanese player at Istora Senayan.
In the first game, Antonsen initially trailed 6-10, with the deficit widening to 10-15 and then 17-20. However, he persevered, closing the gap and ultimately winning the game 22-20 after securing five consecutive points.
In the second game, Antonsen again fell behind early, 2-6. Nevertheless, he managed to catch up and lead 11-9 at the interval. Chou Tien Chen briefly equalized with two consecutive points, but after that, he couldn't regain the lead and eventually lost 14-21.
With this result, Chou Tien Chen failed to secure his second title at the Indonesia Open 2025. Meanwhile, Anders Antonsen finally added his name to the list of champions at this BWF Super 1000 tournament.
This Indonesia Open title is Antonsen's first of the year. He had previously reached the finals of both the Malaysia Open and Thailand Open, but finished as runner-up in both, losing to Shi Yu Qi from China and home player Kunlavut Vitidsarn, respectively.
Antonsen expressed his relief at finally securing a title this year, after a period of not winning any tournaments. "I need to win. I'm starting to get used to winning tournaments. So I'm a little excited and I really want to get the title," he remarked.
His success in winning the Indonesia Open also fulfilled his dream of claiming a Super 1000 title at this event. "This place has changed my life many times. It means a lot to me," he said.
