Andrie Yunus Rejects Military Court Process in Acid Attack Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian activist Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has rejected the military-led investigation into the acid attack against him, declaring that he has no confidence in the process.

Andrie was attacked on March 12, 2026, when four members of the National Intelligence Army Detachment Headquarters allegedly doused him with acid.

Writing from his hospital treatment room, Andrie issued a letter objecting to the investigation being handled by the TNI Military Police (Puspom TNI).

“I object and declare a vote of no confidence,” Andrie wrote in a letter dated Friday, April 3, 2026.

He said he opposes efforts to try the perpetrators in a military court, insisting that anyone involved in the attack — whether civilian or military personnel — should be prosecuted through the civilian justice system.

According to Andrie, the military justice process risks failing to deliver justice for victims. He argued that military courts have often served as spaces of impunity for soldiers accused of violating the law and human rights.

Earlier, TNI Information Center Chief Maj. Gen. Aulia Dwi Nasrullah said investigators were still pursuing the case and had identified four suspects.

Aulia added that investigators from the TNI Military Police had visited Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta to request a statement from Andrie, but doctors had not yet permitted questioning due to his health condition.

Meanwhile, TNI Military Police Commander Maj. Gen. Yusri Nuryanto said the four suspects are members of the Indonesian Military’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI). He identified them by the initials NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.

Yusri said the four suspects have been detained at the Pomdam Jaya Guntur military detention facility since March 18, 2026.
